MG enters BTCC with MG6 dream team!

(From L - R) Ian Harrison (Triple Eight Racing), Guy Jones (MG Motor UK Sales & Marketing Director) Jason Plato and Andy Neate.

MG MOTOR UK today announced it will enter the 2012 BTCC Series with a ‘dream team’ of cars, drivers, constructors and sponsors.

Two MG6 GT cars will run in the all-new MG KX Momentum Racing team piloted by double BTCC champion Jason Plato and BTCC rising star Andy Neate.

The cars will be prepared by Triple Eight Race Engineering, one of the most successful constructors in touring car racing. And completing the ‘dream team’ are principal sponsors Tesco Fuels with their Momentum 99 brand and KX energy drink completing an all-British line-up.

MG KX Momentum Racing will debut at Brands Hatch on April 1when the 2012 Dunlop MSA BTCC championship season gets under way.

The MG6 GT five-door fastback is the first all-new MG in 16 years. It is designed and engineered at MG Motor UK’s plant in Birmingham where final assembly also takes place.

Jason Plato is the most successful driver in BTCC racing history with 68 career wins, with more fastest laps, pole and podium positions than any other driver in the history of the Series.

He is undoubtedly the face of British Touring Cars as well as being a well-known and respected TV presenter and newly appointed Director of the British Racing Drivers Club.

Plato said: “It’s really exciting to be involved in a brand-new all-British team and it’s just brilliant that the iconic name of MG will be back on the track.”

Guy Jones, MG Motor’s Sales & Marketing Director, said: “We are delighted that the new MG6 will be seen by millions of fans in Britain and beyond and this continues the famous sporting lineage of the brand.“
Triple Eight, headed by Ian Harrison, is based at Greatworth, just a few miles from the famous Silverstone race circuit. The company has more than 100 BTCC race wins to its credit.

MG6 Scoops Award!

THE TEAM at MG are delighted that the MG6 has scooped the WHAT CAR? 2012 Security Award.

Chas Hallett, Editor-in-Chief of What Car?, presented the award at the motor industry’s ‘Oscar night’ held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London last night.

He said: “MG is a well-known brand to British buyers, but its engineers had to start from scratch on many of the security features for the MG6. A top five-star rating from Thatcham is as good as it gets, so MG deserves real credit for achieving that from a ‘standing start’.

David Lindley, who heads the team of engineers and designers at the MG Birmingham, accepted the award. He said: “What Car? honours are not given lightly so that makes this award extra special."

HRH The Duke of York visits MG Motor UK

HIS Royal Highness The Duke of York visited MG Motor UK and saw the technology and skills that go into designing and building new cars.

His Royal Highness’ visit was part of a tour of high value technology companies in the West Midlands and Warwickshire, recognition of the strong pedigree of manufacturing and technology within the region.

The Duke, who has a particular focus on science and engineering, toured the European Design Centre and the Technical Centre at the MG Birmingham site. His Royal Highness had an exclusive view of some of the exciting, future MG models now under development.

The Duke saw a demonstration of some of the sophisticated computer design tools recently installed in a new Visualisation Suite. These hi-tech aids allow designers and engineers work in both two dimensions and 3D and improve the quality and efficiency of model development.

His Royal Highness also saw the MG6 GT and MG6 Magnette models, which were designed and engineered at the Birmingham site.

In the on-site Conference Centre The Duke of York signed the historic visitors’ book. His Royal Highness’ signature came just after the last entry of China’s Premier Wen Jiabao who visited MG in June.

David Lindley, MG Motor UK’s Deputy Managing Director, presented The Duke with a scale model of the MG6 to mark his visit.

His Royal Highness visited MG’s parent company, SAIC, in Shanghai in October and last year presented the firm with the Chinese Investor of the Year Award in recognition of a capital investment of more than £45-million at the MG Birmingham Lowhill Lane plant.

Avis to run new MG6 models

ONE OF Britain’s leading car rental firms will soon be running the exciting new MG6 models from MG Motor UK.

Avis Rent a Car has taken delivery of 100 MG6 GT fastbacks and MG6 Magnette sports saloons. It is the first order of its kind for MG.

The cars will be put on Avis’s national car hire fleet and customers will soon be able to hire the MGs for business trips, holidays and other journeys.

Both the MG6 GT fastback and the MG6 Magnette sports saloons are powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine. The cars offer comfort and space for five adults and of course the legendary MG driving dynamics.

The cars are designed, engineered at MG Motor’s plant at MG Birmingham where final assembly also takes place.

Anthony Ainsworth, Commercial Director of Avis Rent a Car, said: “We are extremely pleased to see the iconic MG marque back again and know that our customers will be delighted to be offered the chance to drive an MG when they hire a car from us.”

The MG6 offers class leading chassis dynamics, high levels of standard specification and a huge boot. For car buyers the MG6 has the lowest insurance group ratings of any car in its class. Both S and SE models are rated at 13E and the top-of-the-range TSE is 14E.

Guy Jones, MG Motor UK’s Sales and Marketing Director, said: “We are delighted that such an important company as Avis will be promoting the MG6 as part of its fleet.”

The MG6 range starts from £15,495.00 on the road.
